A recent study by a research group led by Professor Zhenglong Gu at Cornell University in the US found that the dietary supplementation of glucomannan hydrolysate (GMH) (i.e. mannan oligosaccharide / MOS) successfully prolongs life span in Drosophila melanogaster. The study has just been published in The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences (IF 4.902), which is the flagship of The Gerontological Society of America. The model organism used in this experiment is Drosophila melanogaster, which is ideal for aging studies due to its relatively short life span and ease of environmental and genetic manipulations.
